ISSUE TWO SUBMISSIONS
We’re delighted to open the submissions period for the second issue of The Willowherb Review. The submissions window will be open for NINE WEEKS from 1 July–31 August, 2019 at 11.59 pm CET. Submissions received outside this window will not be considered, sorry. Further submissions windows will be announced via the website and social media.
Please read through the following guidelines very carefully, and then submit your text along with the completed questionnaire below.
What do we want?
We’re looking for previously unpublished prose—creative non-fiction especially, but we will consider fiction and poetry—on nature. If you're unsure if your piece fits the bill, have a look at our previous issues. We believe nature writing can tackle all sorts of ideas: from stories of farming to stories of long treks, tales of migration, racism, community, and beauty. You might be writing about remote places, cities, lost landscapes, or old homes. We're looking forward to seeing what matters most to emerging nature writers. Above all, your submission should have a great sense of place and attention to the natural world. Submissions must be finished work.
At this moment, we aren’t looking for reviews or literary criticism, but please check back in the future.
Who are you?
TWR publishes BAME writers, writers of colour, and Indigenous writers. You can be located anywhere in the world, but the main language of the submission should be English.
If you're unsure of what we mean by writer of colour, have a look here. The term ‘people of colour’ is used to describe any group/person that is not white, often sharing a common experience of racism. Indigenous can be taken to include Native American, First Nations, Inuit, and Aboriginal identities, among others.
Length and Format:
Prose submissions can be up to 4000 words in length. Poets can submit up to three poems in total, but we may only publish one.
Files should be in .doc or .docx format, with the filename as follows: YourNameTitleOfSubmission.doc
Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt. double spaced, no headers or footers in formatting please. Poems do not need to be double spaced.
If published, your submission’s copyright will remain with you. The edited text will be licensed for use on The Willowherb Review’s website. You remain free to later republish your work (indeed, we’re pleased to say some of our pieces have gone on to be included in anthologies) crediting us with first publication. The submissions we select will be paid according to our small budget: €150 for prose, €50 for poetry.
*Please note that data collected in the submissions process will be held on file until the selection process is completed, after which point it will be deleted. If your submission is chosen, we’ll keep hold of your information for invoicing and tax purposes.*
Did you read everything over there ← to the left? Yes?
